Dear friends,

Happy Easter!

We have eventually reached the great feast of Easter: it is the heart of our Christian  Faith, an not a “happy-ending” story.

From now to Pentecost, in fifty days time, we shall read, meditate and pray on the narrations of eye-witnesses which recount us of their personal encounters with the Risen Lord. Through their witnessing we will discover new and deeper meanings of Easter and new reasons for rejoicing.

Christ’s coming back to life is similar, but at the same time very different from the resurrection of Lazarus or of the other people about whom we read in the Bible. Now Jesus is similar and yet different. He can be seen and touched, and yet He also appears and disappears and He can even pass through locked doors.

This is not a histrionic trick to console His “deluded” apostles, this is instead His new way of being present in the world: “I am with you always, yes, to the end of the world”.

The two hands able to get hold of Him are, from now on, Faith and Love.

Jesus is present also in the world through the Church, through me, through you.

Seemingly nothing has changed in our world from the time of His resurrection; in reality, everything has changed because He shows us that sadness, discouragement, pessimism have no longer reason for existing.

While with His disciples, Jesus reminded us that we would have had troubles in the world, but also He also told us that we should not be afraid “I have overcome the world”

I wish to congratulate King Moy on his baptism, confirmation and first Communion. His name is now “neophyte,” which means “ new plant or supplying” Let us help him to grow in his faith and commitment to Christ.

On behalf of Fr. Aniello and the Xaverian Community of Hyde Park I wish you and your dear ones a blessed and grace-filled Easter
